10.3. Pumping of hydraulic system



Brake liquid is poisonous. Some types of brake liquid are easily combustible. Brake liquid is hygroscopic.

Effective work of any hydraulic system is possible only after removal from it all air. Process of removal of air of brake system is called as pumping. When pumping use only new, pure brake liquid. Before the beginning of pumping fill a tank with brake liquid above a mark the MOVE and watch, that level of brake liquid did not fall below this mark.

On the Audi 100 models which have not been equipped with system of automatic adjustment of height of a back suspension bracket, translate a rychazhok of the valve of adjustment of pressure in a contour of back brakes as it is possible closer to a back axis and block it in this situation. Pumping of all hydraulic system is necessary for carrying out in the following order at the working engine.

The Audi 100 models with electronic blocking of differential:

 – the pumping valve on the hydraulic module of system of blocking;
 – brake of the right back wheel;
 – brake of the left back wheel;
 – brake of the right forward wheel;
 – brake of the left forward wheel.

All other models:

 – brake of the right back wheel;
 – brake of the left back wheel;
 – brake of the right forward wheel;
 – brake of the left forward wheel.


1. Remove a plastic cap from the valve of production of air on a brake of the first wheel and put on it a rubber tube. Lower the second end of a tube in the capacity filled with brake liquid.
2. Check, that level of brake liquid in a tank was higher than a mark of MIN and ask the assistant to squeeze out a brake pedal several times.
3. Turn off the pumping valve (approximately on a turn floor), ask the assistant to squeeze out slowly a pedal of a brake and to leave it pressed. Wait, while brake liquid will flow down. When the stream of liquid will stop, close the valve, ask the assistant to release slowly a pedal of a brake and check liquid level in a tank.
4. Repeat point 3 while in following brake liquid there will be no air vials.
5. Reliably tighten the pumping valve, lift the receiver and put on a cap.
6. Repeat operation of pumping on brakes of other wheels in demanded sequence.


1. In a rubber tube of such set the unilateral valve preventing hit of air and old brake liquid back in brake system is established. The set also can include capacity for collecting old brake liquid.
2. After set connection to the pumping valve, open the valve. Smoothly squeeze out a pedal of a brake and slowly release it. Repeat this operation while all air will not be removed from brake system.


Having connected a set for pumping under pressure to a tank of brake liquid, for pumping of system it is rather simple to open pumping valves in turn for a slitiya of old brake liquid and production of air.


On termination of pumping wash away the spilled brake liquid, reliably twirl valves of pumping and establish on them caps. Once again check level of brake liquid.
